The information technology revolution is inherently global, and IIIT is appropriately international in scope. Our affiliated research centers work on an international scale, and we are actively helping to promote IT educational program with partners around the world.
International IT Projects
  COLLABORATION WITH CAIRO UNIVERSITY
Virginia Tech and Cairo University are working together on a plan that would allow students to complete the Master's of Information Technology degree in three years of study through Cairo University. An extension of the successful Masters of Information Technology program at Virginia Tech, the program will feature courses that integrate content from three Colleges through the departments of Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Marketing. Courses will be delivered through the Internet, CD-ROM, and interactive videoconferencing, and Virginia Tech faculty will also teach on-site at CU.
IIIT and OIRD TO HELP THE GOVERNMENT OF EGYPT WITH IT
Virginia Tech's IIIT is a key partner in a USAID-sponsored project with the Government of Egypt to incorporate information technology into its entire educational system. S.K. DeDatta of Virginia Tech's Office of International Research and Development, helped put together this consortium to help the Egyptian government redesign its K-12 and higher education system. IIIT will supply technical expertise to help create a new class of Technology Universities in Egypt. Other partners are PalTech, Price Waterhouse Coopers, and SRI International.
PRESTIGIOUS FELLOWSHIPS ON HORIZON THROUGH EXCHANGE PROGRAM WITH INSTITUT NATIONAL DES TÉLÉCOMMUNICATIONS
IIIT and the Institut National des Télécommunications, a consortium of top-flight telecommunications schools in France, are collaborating on an exchange program for graduate students in IT. Competitively awarded fellowships would support graduate students from Virginia Tech to work at Telecom INT in Paris and another cohort of French graduate students to live and work at Virginia Tech. Fellowships will be sponsored by corporate donors to promote the development of a more globally aware, IT-savvy workforce. (Contact us to learn more about the program or becoming a corporate donor.)
